Wild Wolf EdVenture

Join the Minnesota Zoo for this once-in-a-lifetime North Woods adventure!

Dates for each trip:

  • February 19-21, 2016: For ages 21+
  • March 4-6, 2016: Family trip, ages 12+ (minors need to be with parent)

Times: Starting at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and returning around 6 p.m. on Sunday
CEUs: Available upon request.

We’ll start our journey at the Minnesota Zoo, visiting the Zoo’s wolves with a wolf zookeeper. From there, we’ll continue our three-day, two-night adventure in Ely, MN where we will gain a new familiarity with one of our state’s most charismatic species, and:

  • Track radio-collared wolves from a small airplane
  • Go dogsledding with the Wintergreen team (run by Paul Schurke, a member of the first confirmed team to reach the North Pole without re-supply, and his wife Susan)
  • Snowshoe through the snowy woods to an abandoned wolf den, a frozen waterfall, or other wintry delights
  • Howl to the local wild wolf packs
  • Tour the inspiring exhibits at the International Wolf Center and learn about wolf biology and conservation from local experts
  • Enjoy our time at the Silver Rapids Lodge, exploring the wooded trails and indoor sauna

Fee: $575* per person (Minnesota Zoo and International Wolf Center members receive a $25 discount)

Ages:

  • Ages 21+ for the February 19-21 trip.
  • Ages 12+ (minors must be accompanied by a paid adult) for the March 4-6 trip.

Trip Leader: Dawn Devens is an Interpretive Naturalist at the Minnesota Zoo; and has been with the Zoo for 17 years. Dawn did her graduate work on “Ecotourism in the country of Belize” and has also taught Biology and Geography at the University. Dawn is an avid traveler and has guided many trips to places as close as Northern Minnesota and as far as Central America. Dawn is an enthusiastic teacher and loves to share her knowledge of wild animals and wild places.
